Sit under the big trees on the Mekong bank, look across to Laos, and order garlic-fried river fish, a hot pot of tom yum and plenty of Thai-Isan dishes on Samran Chai Khong Road in Mukdahan town.
Nad Pob Rim Khong simply means a meeting place by the Mekong: our tables are on Samran Chai Khong Road, with the river right behind us and Savannakhet in Laos on the far bank.
When Sanook Travel visited in 2020 it reported that the restaurant had been serving for more than 65 years, and singled out our many dishes made with Mekong river fish.
Our menu covers Thai and Isan fried dishes, stir-fries, soups, curries and spicy salads. Sit on the shaded terrace, on the deck by the railing, or in the glassed-in room; some evenings there is live music.

The best meal I have ever had in Thailand. Friendly welcome, great service and the food was amazing. Riverside view, can eat inside or out. Very extensive menu. Small car park in front of the restaurant but more parking available opposite.
Mukdahan town strings along the Mekong, with a riverside promenade, passing long-tail boats and Phu Pha Thoep National Park a short drive out. The four shots here show the town and countryside, not our dining room.

Can we sit by the river? Yes. The terrace behind the restaurant sits on the Mekong bank, with tables under the trees and along the railing, plus an indoor glassed-in room.
New here: what should we try first? Start with river fish: garlic-fried pla nuea on and pla khang tom yum, then add a stir-fry or a spicy salad and plenty of rice.
